Worldwide Satellite Systems (WWSS)

Awarded in August 2006, the World-Wide Satellite Systems (WWSS) contract is open to all federal agencies in the DoD and throughout the federal government, wherever commercial satellite terminals and associated services are needed. Under the terms of the firm-fixed price, indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contract, which has a $5 billion dollar ceiling over a term of five years, each supplier will provide comprehensive turnkey solutions, from satellite communications systems hardware to operations services to logistics support, for a myriad of commercial satellite terminal configurations.

Army officials expect WWSS products and services will support all federal communications missions, including disaster relief and homeland security efforts. Army officials say the WWSS contract’s greatest significance is its ability to support Department of Defense (DoD) requirements for secure satellite communications, while relying on open industry standards.
